About the event
We’re excited to invite you to a special Meet the Author and Illustrator event featuring Sam Casey, author of Jay the Magical Middle Schooler, and Austin Ickes, the book’s illustrator.
This event is proudly sponsored by the Blue Water Allies Banned Book Club and the Teen Collective, both dedicated to creating supportive, inclusive spaces where young people can explore stories that reflect diverse identities and experiences.
Jay the Magical Middle Schooler is an engaging, LGBTQ+ affirming middle-grade fantasy series following Jay Soren, a nonbinary sixth grader who discovers their magical powers early and must navigate both everyday challenges, like friendships, bullies, and family changes, and the complexities of magic. Attendees will have the chance to participate in a discussion and virtual visit with the author and illustrator, ask questions, and connect with peers who share similar interests.
